The person who arrives at a consultation brings more than a symptom. Their biological health, emotional life, beliefs, family, work, culture, living environment and sense of meaning all shape the experience of health and illness. The Seven Domains of Inner Ecology offer Bruce’s map for exploring this wider picture.
What this means in practice
The domains help us ask better questions; they are not seven diagnoses. A person with poor sleep may need clinical assessment, a practical change in their evening environment, support with caring responsibilities, or several of these together. The person’s own priorities guide the conversation.
In everyday life: Seeing the circumstances
A person wants to prepare regular meals but is also caring for a family member and managing a limited budget.
A whole-person conversation includes responsibilities, resources, preferences and available help. Practical support may matter as much as information about food.
A plan becomes more useful when it fits the life it belongs to.
A small practice
Think of a time when your health was supported by something outside a treatment: a helpful conversation, a quieter environment or practical assistance. Notice which domains were involved.
